Gasket

Where are our stories shelved? They bleed on top of one another,
drool into one another,
vibrate in the earth under our feet, and seep out of the
internal containers we store them in.
Through the acknowledgment of how experiences spread like gossip through our physiological roots, can honoring shared hopelessness be, ultimately, hopeful?
The two-part work—installation and performance—asks audiences to engage with fleeting memories that are constructed, fractured and resurrected anew. Both viewers and performers collectively activate breaches of a conceptual “gasket” that seals the past and present, and when worn down, may leak or rupture. Gasket confronts what is frontal and what is peripheral of memory, and examines the longing brought on by the discomfort of forgetting.
GĒR Collective premiered Gasket at the historic Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica in the Fall of 2024. The experiential, multimedia work considers the stakes of memory fertilization and its inevitable depletion.
